Helping children & youth in Central America improve their lives through education.

Matagalpa, Nicaragua

Our Vision:

Opportunity Tree supports children and youth in Central America as they work to improve their lives through education. We currently serve students in under-resourced rural communities of Nicaragua & Guatemala.

We're working to create more opportunities, one student at a time.

Matagalpa Scholarship Program

MATAGALPA, NICARAGUA

In the rural Matagalpa region of Nicaragua, our scholarship program pays for some of the out-of-pocket costs that students and families would otherwise have trouble affording, such as tuition, school supplies, telecom, transportation expenses, and uniforms.

Limitless Horizons Ixil

EL QUICHÉ, GUATEMALA

We support students with educational and economic needs in the highlands of Guatemala, where descendants of ancient Maya have had extra challenges accessing opportunities for education. Our partner, Limitless Horizons Ixil (LHI), helps children and youth of the Chajul community with opportunities for learning, mentoring, and leadership.

Library Enrichment Project

RIVAS, NICARAGUA

Our Library Enrichment Program establishes libraries in under-resourced rural elementary schools of Rivas, Nicaragua in partnership with Hester J. Hogdon Libraries for All.  Students, teachers, and families are thrilled by the libraries and our new non-internet educational server and Chromebooks, RACHEL.

Meet The Students

Since our inception in 2011, Opportunity Tree has helped hundreds of Central American children and youth pursue their educational goals. Here are a few words from some of our current and past students:

AXEL - MATAGALPA

“In my community, it’s important to have a doctor.  But we don’t have one.  We have serious illnesses, such as dengue fever, chikungunya, and different types of fevers.  My hope is to open a medical office with a laboratory.  I believe that if young people have an opportunity to study, we should take advantage of it!  It’s such a good way to move forward and to help our country.”
